As we are always looking to recommend the best fine dining options for our adult over 5o travellers, we have been looking forward to dining at Sydney’s newest Indian Restaurant, The Grand Pavilion. We have had the pleasure of dining at Chef Guna Shekhar’s other restaurants, which we have always enjoyed and after learning of his ambitious goal of taking his unique Indian fine dining formula from regional NSW to open a flagship 5 star dining experience in the heart of Sydney’s tourist and business district late last year, we were hoping that his foray into the very competitive Sydney dining scene would be successful. On arrival at the Grand Pavilion Sydney, a staff member of the restaurant greeted us warmly at the front of the restaurant before leading us down a set of stairs to the main dining room. This 30 second journey from the busy streetscape of George Street is a simple but brilliant enhancement to the restaurant as enables to venue to transport you from downtown Sydney to a exotic, far away Indian setting. On entering the main dining area, it is immediately obvious that the Sydney Grand Pavillion is not your “normal” Indian dining experience. The dining room has been meticulously fitted out from items sourced directly from India which further assists in guests being immersed in a Indian destination. Grand Pavilion Sydney As a party of six we were seated promptly by the restaurant’s very efficient and friendly hostess.  Our table was situated in a semi private enclosure that was adorned with beautiful Indian woodwork & wall panelling and the table was set with very good quality themed plates, cutlery and glassware. Once settled, the manager welcomed us to the new restaurant and then expertly guided us through the very comprehensive menu that was presented in a beautiful timber binder. After making his recommendations and discussing the chefs specialities for that night, we were introduced to the restaurants sommelier. As the Sydney Grand Pavilion had only been open for a few weeks, the full wine menu was still under development by the sommelier, chef and restruant manager but we were still impressed with the wines on offer and enjoyed the Riesling that was recommended for us. On Chef Shekhar’s recommendation, we ordered a number of the restaurants unique appetisers and mains that were especially developed for the new Sydney location. Grand Pavilion Sydney After previously dining at The Grand Pavilion’s other locations, we were confident that the food would be good but we are pleased to report that each dish that was served to us surpassed our expectations. However, what surprised us was the level of service we experienced. The Sydney Grand Pavilion is truly a 5-star dining experience and Chef Shekhar and his expert  team has truly created a new standard for Indian Fine Dining. This service, when combined with a very reasonably priced food and wine menu is truly great value for money and sets it apart from its competition. We would rate The Grand Pavilion Sydney as the best Indian restaurant in Sydney and one of the best value fine dining experiences that you can enjoy in Australia.
